Website Analysis

Do you want to do analysis of all your website files using Frontpage and Excel?

Here is a quick way to get a list of all the website files with file characteristics
into Excel to sort and analyze. Instructions are for Frontpage 2003.

In Frontpage:

View | Reports | Files | All Files to create a report of all your website files.

File | Save As | enter file name | file type = HTML (it is saved in Excel HTML format)

Double click on the file | it will open in Excel.

In Excel:

You now have an Excel spread sheet with the files in the website with Fields as follows:
In Folder, Name, Comments, Title, Size, Type, Modified Date, and Modified By

Suggestions:
Following is a real example from a website I maintain:

Using Excel COUNTIF and SUMIF commands, see what percentage of total size each file type is

=COUNTIF($F$4:$F$433,C436) ...
... continue for each file type

=SUMIF($F$4:$F$433,C436,$E$4:$E$433) ...
... continue for each file type

It will yield the first three columns below.
Columns 4 and 5 are standard formulas for average size and percentage of website.
